Staff Skill Mix and Staffing Levels

Whickham Villa’s team includes Nurses (RGN & RNLD Learning Disability), a team of experienced Therapists (Neural Pathways), Care Assistants, a Diversional Therapist, Therapy Assistants and Individual Enablers. Our team of enablers extend our service to clients wide into the community, providing an unlimited array of social opportunities and making them accessible as part of their holistic rehabilitation programmes.

Our team has shared values and a vision to enable our clients to: -

  • Share in existing opportunities in their community
  • Make informed choices
  • Develop abilities and fulfil their potential
  • Be treated with respect and have a valued social role
  • Grow and develop in their relationships

Our required statutory staffing ratio is of 1 staff member to every 4 residents. The staffing levels at Whickham Villa, however, are client needs driven and bespoke levels of staffing are provided for individual clients as their needs dictate. The current staffing levels in operation indicate a high ratio of 1 staff member to every 1.5 residents. These are the current staffing levels required to provide the holistic clinical, therapeutic and rehabilitative needs of each individual client. Whickham Villa is working in partnership with Neural Pathways to produce rehabilitation pathways for people with long-term neurological difficulties. Together we offer the combination of our professional multidisciplinary skills, philosophic commitment and enthusiasm to increase the empowerment and quality of life for people with Neurological damage and support for their families.

Our Interdisciplinary Team consists of:

  • Occupational Therapists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Clinical Neuropsychologists
  • Pathway Facilitator

We believe that the wealth of shared experience in rehabilitation from both specialist organisations allows our combined team to make a true difference to the holistic rehabilitation service and array of choices available for all our clients and their families.

In addition to the delivery and co-ordination of Therapeutic services, Neural Pathways are commissioned by Whickham Villa to provide ongoing staff development and training, strategic service development and the joint development and support of quality assurance systems.

A conscious commissioning decision has been made by Whickham Villa to maximise the service flexibility Neural Pathways can provide, as opposed to the employment of in-house therapists. This means we can deliver a seamless provision of therapy services, from the same experienced therapy team, as individual’s progress through Whickham Villa on their rehabilitation pathway towards appropriate independent living.
