CARE FACILITY HOLDS APPRENTICESHIP BREAKFAST

Jan 31, 2012

A Tyneside-based healthcare provider has kicked-off National Apprenticeship Week 2012 by hosting an event for youngsters eager to learn more about working in the region’s health and social care sector.

Whickham Villa LLP, which operates Chase Park Rehabilitation Centre and Millfied House care home on the same site, held an ‘Apprenticeship Breakfast’ for the local community at its site in Whickham.

The drop-in sessions form part of National Apprenticeship Week 2012 (6-10 February) and the event is one of hundreds that will be held all around the country and will celebrate the advantages of getting involved in the Apprenticeship programme.

The open day provided local students with the opportunity to meet staff, further education providers and other health and social care professionals to learn more about apprenticeships and working within in the industry.

Family-owned Whickham Villa LLP, which will celebrate its 25th birthday this year, teamed-up with several local schools last year to arrange a similar apprenticeship event, which led to the creation of several new apprenticeship roles.

Alistair McDonald, director at award-winning Whickham Villa LLP, said: “Last year we held our first apprentice open day, which provided students from local schools with an insight into a real-life health and social care environment and also encouraged many to apply apprenticeship schemes.

“This year’s event has once again been able to help promote awareness of the varied career paths available within health and social care and will hopefully encourage more young people to consider working within this rewarding sector.”

Chase Park Rehabilitation Centre is today recognised as one of the UK’s leading neuro-rehabilitation facilities and the expert in ‘step forward rehabilitation’. The facility, which also incorporates a health club, primarily supports people with complex neurological conditions and those recovering from serious acquired brain and spinal injuries.

Whickham Villa employs over 100 staff and shares close ties with several charitable organisations that include Headway - the brain injury association, Arthritis Care, the MS Society and the North East Motor Neurone Disease Trust.
