REHAB CENTRE GRANTED MAJOR APPROVAL
Chase Park Rehabilitation Centre has become only the third in the UK to be given Approved Provider Status by the charity Headway - the brain injury association.
Award-winning Chase Park Rehabilitation Centre – part of Whickham Villa LLP – received this significant seal of approval following a number of successful inspections of its Gateshead-based site.
Chase Park, which supports people with acquired brain injury and complex neurological conditions, was invited earlier this year to be one of 14 pilot sites across the UK to be assessed for the new scheme and becomes the first in the North-East to gain full approval.
The Headway initiative, which is supported by the Department of Health, has approved Chase Park for a two year period. The news is a major boost for the region’s healthcare sector, particularly those involved or affected by specialist care and rehabilitation for people with brain injury.
Headway promotes the understanding of all aspects of brain injury and developed the scheme to set service benchmarks for excellence and to help differentiate between care homes, respite units and specialist transitional rehabilitation establishments such as Chase Park. The aim is to provide families with greater information and guidance when choosing such services for their loved ones.
Mandy Hassall, director of services at Headway, said: “We are delighted to endorse the services and facilities of Chase Park Rehabilitation Centre.
“Its high staffing levels, range of outstanding facilities, proactive commitment to ongoing improvements and progressive culture all fit very well with the criteria and expectations of the Approved Provider scheme.
“We look forward to working in partnership with the Centre to help provide information, support and services to people with a brain injury, their families and carers,” added Mandy.
The renowned charity is in the process of assessing services nationally to measure and develop standards in order to establish the highest quality provision of specialist care and rehabilitation for people with brain injuries.
Family-owned Chase Park is now part of Headway’s official list of Approved Providers for use by families and professionals, a more formal directory will be compiled as the project develops. This is its latest notable endorsement, as Chase Park is already backed by the MS Society and The North East Motor Neurone Disease Trust. Chase Park was also assessed as ‘excellent’ by the health and social care sector’s regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC) last year.
Boda Gallon, chief executive at Chase Park Rehabilitation Centre, said: “We are thrilled and very proud to be one of the first facilities to have been named as a Headway Approved Provider given its high-profile in terms of promoting improved approaches to assessment, rehabilitation and social re-integration for people with brain injury.
“Our ethos is about providing a ‘step-forward’ rehabilitation service that helps re-introduce clients into the community, while offering a holistic approach to well-being and a comfortable social environment for clients and their families.
“The achievement is testament to the hard work, commitment and dedication of our staff. We are very pleased to be working with Headway given the fantastic support it provides to people with brain injuries when returning to community living, which very much complements our approach,” added Boda.
Chase Park’s approach to rehabilitation and the services it provides has been developed to be responsive to and promote the personalisation agenda. Its offerings are underpinned by a client-focused culture and provides a large array of individual service and lifestyle opportunities for clients to choose from.
With a track record spanning almost 25 years, Whickham Villa LLP has maintained its person-centred culture whereby all its services are developed with the client in mind, encouraging independent living and improved quality of life.
